How to donate

As you can imagine, despite the herculean unpaid efforts of our volunteers operating and maintaining the Magpie Mine site is a costly operation, so thank you for your intention to make a donation.

There are several ways to pay, pick whatever is easiest for you.

By cheque payable to Peak District Mines Historical Society Ltd by post to

PDMHS Ltd
The Grand Pavilion
South Parade
Matlock Bath
DE4 3NR

By cheque payable to Peak District Mines Historical Society Ltd in person to one of our volunteers who are often on-site, leading one of our heritage walks or occasionally on-site at our lead mining display in the Crich Tramway museum (for security reasons the volunteers will not accept cash).

By cash, cheque or card in person at the Peak District Lead Mining Museum which was created by PDMHS to explain the lead mining heritage and houses the society’s extensive collection of mining related artefacts.  Matlock Bath and the museum is well worth a visit and includes the possibility of visiting Temple Lead mine, just across the road (pre-booking usually essential).
The museum has an extensive stock of maps, guide-books and other publications for sale covering the Peak District in general and mining in particular.

By BACS, please email the treasurer for details. treasurer@pdmhs.com

Gift Aid If you are a UK taxpayer, for every pound you donate we can reclaim a further 25p from HMRC. You can authorise that by sending an email to the treasurer including your full name and postal address adding this statement “I am a UK taxpayer and wish to Gift Aid my donation and any payments I may make in the future to the Peak District Mines Historical Society Ltd.” or by printing, completing and sending this form with your payment.

By Credit/Debit card using PayPal.
PayPal take 20p +3.4% from your donation so our preference is to receive donations by BACS, Cheque, Postal Order, Cash etc… However PayPal does make it quick and easy (it can also take Credit/Debit card and non-sterling payments).

Please don’t send small amounts (under £2) as, by the time PayPal has deducted their fees, there’s not much left!
To avoid those fees please don’t use PayPal for membership renewal either.

To proceed with a  PayPal donation please complete the form below.  You will be transferred to PayPal where you you can specify whatever amount you wish.
If you are a UK Tax Payer, we’d be most grateful if you could tick the appropriate box so we can make a claim from HMRC.

Check here if you are a UK taxpayer. I wish to Gift Aid my donation and any payments I may make in the future to the Peak District Mines Historical Society Ltd.
The simple question makes it harder for computer programs to exploit the form to send junk email.

I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference.

Please notify the Peak District Mines Historical Society if you:

    • want to cancel this declaration
    • change your name or home address
    • no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains
    • To maximise your tax giving, your Gift Aid declaration will be automatically backdated 4 years if you have made previous donations, as permitted by the Gift Aid Scheme.
    • If you pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate you are able to claim additional tax relief.  To do that you should include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self-Assessment tax return or ask HMRC to adjust your tax code.
    • Corporate donations and those made from Charitable Trusts or Foundations are not eligible for Gift Aid.

    But that’s not all…
