Lists of Derbyshire Miners, taken from the Censuses of 1841 to 1871, have been compiled by the society's Recorder, Dave Williams in the course of researching the decline of employment in the Derbyshire lead mining industry and to try and plot the emigration of lead-miners to the Derbyshire coalfield.
These lists are by no means complete and the absence of a name should not be taken as the absence of the miner.
Where a name is unreadable an asterisk has been used to cover the missing character.
We hope that these are of use to researchers, and would welcome any additional information, corrections or omissions. Apart from research from microfilms in the Matlock, Chesterfield and Buxton branches of the Derbyshire Library Service, Dave also extracted data using the CDs of census data supplied by Archive CD Books and the web-site belonging to John Palmer who has an exhaustive collection of data relating to Wirksworth and district on his web-site .
This database currently only has the data for 1871, we hope to add the other years census data too. (The source data layout differs, the aim is to convert all to a consistent format such that an individual miner or household can more easily be tracked across 3 or 4 decades).

County and Town columns indicate birthplace.
