It is with great sadness that we have to report that Jim Rieuwerts passed away on Thursday 5 November. Jim was one of the three who arranged the 1959 public meeting that resulted in the foundation of PDMHS. In the years that followed Jim researched the mines of the Peak extensively, publishing the results of this work as widely as possible and becoming recognised as the leading authority on Peak District mining history. He was for many years a member of the Barmote Court jury, and had long been the jury foreman due to his expertise in the intricacies of Peak mining law. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
