No pre-booking required – everyone welcome.

A 4 1/2mile walk starting at 10.00am from the Pay & Display Car Park in Castleton (next to the Tourist Information Centre). We will first visit the tail of Odin Sough, then head up to the Odin Mine itself to view the entrances and the crushing circle. From there, we will climb up Odin Gorge to the Blue John Cavern, then to Mam Tor to see Mam Engine Shaft. Descending towards the head of Winnats Pass, we will visit Windy Knoll Cave and the nearby quarry, before crossing to Rowter Farm and New Rake, then down past Hurdlow Barn (pictured below) to the top of Cave Dale, and then down the dale back to Castleton.

Hurdlow Barn and Mam Tor, Castleton, Peak District © David WormsleyThis walk is fairly strenuous due to the roughly 700ft of ascent from Castleton to the summit of Mam Tor, and it is expected to last 5 to 6 hours – so be sure to bring a packed lunch and a drink.
